Laser Hair Removal Studio Rochester NY
Laser Hair Removal Education
- Laser Hair removal is semi permanent – no one can promise 100% hair removal due to various factors such as hormones, life changes (pregnancy), medications, etc. Typically, clients see 85-93% reduction after completion of ten treatments. Some clients may need more or fewer treatments based on their particular situation, but generally 10 completed sessions are what most clients need for optimal reduction.
- Hair cycles: Every area of the body has different hair cycles and therefore has different windows between treatments. It is normal to see hair growth before your next treatment.
- It is normal to see hair prior to your next treatment because it is most effective to treat hair during the anagen phase of hair growth, which is when the hair is growing and still attached to the hair follicle.
- Perifollicular edema (PFE) is a normal response. PFE normally lasts from a few hours to a few days after treatment.
How Laser Hair Removal works
- Laser doesn’t target hair; laser targets the melanin in the hair follicle. That is why blonde, white, gray, or red hair is not targeted.
- The way laser hair removal works is that it emits a beam of light that is absorbed by the pigment in the hair. The light is converted into heat energy which travels down the shaft and into the follicle. The heat generated from absorption of light damages the follicle. When the follicle is sufficiently damaged, it can no longer produce hair.
Laser Hair Removal Considerations
Although your treatments are performed by a nurse who has extensive laser experience, there is no MD oversight. Therefore we can only provide you with general advice in accordance with the laser manufacturer. It is your responsibility to seek medical help if needed.
Increased hair growth is possible. According to data, the highest risk groups for this response are females of Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and South Asian heritage receiving treatment on the face and neck.
Due to changes of temperature, clients who have a history of herpes simplex virus 1 or 2 are at risk for an outbreak if treated in previously infected areas. Clients should consult their doctor prior to treatment.
Clients with active tans are at risk for burns, hyperpigmentation (treatable), and hypopigmentation (likely permanent). People with sun exposure 2 weeks post treatment are also at risk. It is incredibly important to report recent sun exposure to us; our staff has the right to perform test spots prior to treatment to ensure client safety.
Risks come with any Laser Hair Removal treatment. They are typically minimal and resolve on their own; they are rarely permanent. It is important to disclose any adverse reactions from previous treatments. If necessary, it is the client’s responsibility to seek medical attention.
What to expect during your appointment
A positive experience is the number one goal at Skin Studio Laser Hair Removal.
- The nurse will have you sign a consent form every session and ask for any changes in medical history. This is important to keep you safe.
- Before and after photos will be taken unless you refuse. However this practice is highly encouraged and recommended so that the client and nurse can assess progress and make adjustments if needed.
- The nurse will ask if you have any products on; if so, you will be instructed to wipe or wash the area prior to treatment.
- The nurse will assess skin tone and look for signs of active tan as well as gather information on sun exposure. This is very important to minimize risks of burns or complications. If the nurse has suspicion of a change in skin tone, she will perform a series of test shots and you will be instructed to watch and report any adverse reactions. If there are no adverse reactions, you’ll be instructed to return in 72 hours for full treatment. This will not be deducted from your session cost; the process is designed to keep you safe.
- During treatment, you will feel a “snap,” some cold air, and heat. A burnt hair smell might be present, which is normal. Clients generally feel little to moderate discomfort. The nurse will always ask how it feels; pain management techniques will be performed as needed, and setting adjustments may also be made.
- Before you leave, we’ll set you up with your next appointment.
- We encourage you to apply aloe to treated areas following your appointment.
